Captain George W. Hackworth,

Captain George W. Hackworth's Company, First Regiment Virginia State Line

(Cavalry) from Cabell County, [West] Virginia

Library of Congress, Liljenquist Family Collection

This technically superb ambrotype of rare three quarter size shows Hackworth with homespun uniform, belt and Confederate cavalry officer's saber, probably supplied out of the western Confederacy, since Cabell County was closer to Nashville than to Richmond. The Library of Congress currently has Hackworth misclassified as a member of the First Virginia Cavalry, which regiment he was never a member of. Note also that his saber is inserted backwards into his scabbard in order to compensate visually for the reversal of the negative image.
